Morningwood is an irreverent and politically incorrect comic novel about a couple of days in the life of a small-time private investigator on a fool’s errand.

Everyone knows him as Morningwood. Just Morningwood. He used to be a real detective, but he stopped being that a while ago and started doing his own thing because he hated working for the man.

If you saw his ad on a bus top bench you would know he was the eponymous proprietor of Morningwood Investigations. It’s a small agency that specializes in infidelity and insurance fraud. When he’s hired to find a man who is supposed to have died in a terrorist attack ten years earlier he sets out to track him down and learns that all is not as it seems.

Everyone who knows Morningwood knows that he always has something to say about everybody and everything. Even when he’s not saying it, he’s thinking it, and he makes no apologies about it. He’s been accused of being crass and uncomfortably honest and prone to digression, but he couldn’t care less.

Reviews

KJ Davis                                          5 Stars

Wade’s brilliantly crafted sentences will have you laughing out loud. The story is about several days in the life and mind of Morningwood, a middle aged guy who likes to microdose LSD for brain enhancement in his work as a PI, the side effect of which is his constant digressions as his mind moves from one thought to another. Morningwood has an opinion about everyone (he rubs elbows with many seedy and unsavory characters) and everything. His assistant Genevieve is a strong female character who I hope to see more of in the future.

“The author clearly intends his story to be a light-hearted farce, and to that end, it’s an easy read.”–Kirkus Reviews

Kat                                                   5 stars Perfect book for the summer – July 17, 2019

I really liked this book, it was irreverent and funny and a perfect read for a summer vacation. I was sad when it ended, I wanted to keep reading about Morningwood’s crazy life.

Csue50                                                 4 stars Pulp fiction story – June 19,2019

I enjoyed the rich vocabulary missing from a lot of books. The story was humorous with some crass moments. Interesting style, kind of stream of consciousness. Fun book.

Kevin                                               5 stars Fun read. – June 22, 2019

Enjoyed the attention to details and witty humor.

Deborah Silva Alvarado             5 stars A fun read – lots of laughing out loud – June 19, 2019

With something to insult everyone, the story includes some politically incorrect attitudes about nearly everyone. Evidently private investigation is a seedy business, and the reader gets to meet the cream of the crop of human misfits. Excellent character studies by a keen observer of human nature.

Morningwood is offensive, yet I was not offended.  Its naked character development leaves one intrigued and at the same time a little ashamed to watch. Its unassuming yet bombastic. Uncomfortably honest. At times I found myself laughing against my better judgement. Would love to see more action and a little less introspection from our detective. I bought into his character long before he was done explaining himself to us. The world in which he lives is a richly layered, flawed, palate that may bring anything to light, and probably against traditional sensibilities will.
